The Educational Records Bureau CTP 4 exam (the standardized test given to all students in grades 3-8 at Hillel) for grades 3-5 take place during the week of May 14-18 during General Studies classes.  Please be sure your child arrives to school on time and has had a great night’s sleep and breakfast.  Please contact me if you have any questions.  The class will be taking practice tests during the week prior to the ERB and homework will be limited for the week of 5/14-18.

4)  Family Activity:  At dinner, announce a word problem related to your dinner (eg., I have half of a hamburger on my plate.  If I cut it up into four parts, what would each part be called?  1/8th.)  Take turns!

1)  FINISH THE PRESENTATION BOARD for the Colonial Expo.  The board is due tomorrow.  The tools are due in by this Friday.  Remember to use cheap materials from home to make the tools (like paper towel tubes, cardboard, tin foil and scraps of unneeded fabric).
2)  Math:  Mrs. O's math students, please complete page 169 (about variables and expressions).
3)  Family activity:  Turn on the radio and dance!  If you like, teach your family the Colonial dance you know...

1)  Bring in your reading log if you didn't do so today.

2)  Start thinking about a thesis or two for your Literary Essay (based on one of the Spinelli novels we read in school).  Write it into your Writers' Workshop notebook on a page titled "Possible Literary Essay Theses."
3)  Revise your personal essay by, first, checking for structure, then checking for proper elaboration (explanations, examples, details), and lastly, add craft by including powerful words (like Wordly Wise words or the transition words I provided).
4)  Math:  Mrs. O's students, please continue making corrections for any questions you got wrong on your math test.
5)  Family activity:  Offer and follow through with an offer to your parents to help in preparation for Pesach.

3)  Prepare a tool or two for your Colonial occupation.
4)  Family activity:  Act out the activity of a different system (like the excretory system) in your body for a family member.  You can give your mother or father a part, such as the kidney, and she/he has to say, "I am so bored of balancing all the water and waste in hereall day long.  I wish my 'owner' would drink more water to balance the pasta in here."  Have fun!

4)  Math (Mrs. O's math students-) page on 1-3 (both sides).
5)  Family activity:  Go for a 15-20 minute walk with your parent(s) after school, before you begin your homework.  It will actually help you think/work more efficiently.
