Dear Parents,
Spring is almost here and this week we read "The very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle . The yeladim decorated leaves using tissue paper, with a tiny hole for the little caterpillar. We visited the 1st grade classroom and Mrs.Krycler showed us real caterpillars spinning a cocoon. We also heard a beautiful song on the smartboard as we watched the caterpillar spin his cocoon. Soon they will turn into beautiful butterflies and fly in the air!
Who can believe that Purim flew by and Pesach is just a few weeks away?
If you visit our classroom you will see our science table filled with frogs and books about Pesach.
We are learning in leaps and bounds, literally! The yeladim had fun hopping around the classroom and outside, pretending to be frogs. We also painted frog puppets, and of course we sang about the
frogs that jumped ALL OVER King Pharoah when he refused to listen to Moshe Rabeinu.
"One morning when Pharoah awoke in his bed,
There were frogs on his head and frogs on his bed,
Frogs on his nose and frogs on his toes
Frogs here,
frogs there,
frogs were jumping everywhere!"
Some very interesting frog facts
Tadpoles grow up to be frogs!
Frogs use their big strong legs and LEAP into the air over 20 times their length! That would be like me or you jumping across a football field!
Many frogs are considered endangered species!
This is one of our favorite frog songs:
"Five green and speckled frogs, Sitting on a hollow log, Eating some most delicious bugs, Yum, Yum. One frog jumped in the pool, Where it was nice and cool, Now there are only four green and speckled frogs, Glub, glub."
During our circle time we use puppets and songs to learn about the story of Pesach.
We met the Matzah man who loves to bake Matzah for pesach!
(to the tune of: the muffin man)
"Do you know the Matzah man?
The Matzah man?
The Matzah man?
Do you know the Matzah man?
He lives in Torah lane"
The Matzah man explained the difference between chametz and matzah!
This week we also made ורד
crowns for the letter Vav and we painted our seder plates pink!
We welcome Jake Blank to our Pre-Nursery class and his parents Lisa and Jeremy to our Hillel family!
Playful Dramatic Play
By: Dawn Kreisberg
The ability to pretend is very important to a child's future success. To pretend, children must be able to recall experiences they have had and then re- create them. They must be able to picture experiences in their minds.
Children like to try on different roles, act out experiences, recall past events and work out real life situations that maybe bothering him/ her. One day in the dramatic play area in any ECE classroom you will see a child going to the grocery store, making a list, gathering items, and using play money to pay at the checkout counter. Another day the child may pretend to be a dentist or firefighter or even Queen Esther or Mordechai. Take a walk through the ECE hallway and you have arrived in the city of Shushan. Relax and enjoy dressing up with the many items on our Purim discovery table. The children use the props of crowns, beads and more to retell the story of Purim.
One way we encourage dramatic play experiences is to have plenty of dress up items available in that center. This enhances a child's cognitive abilities and encourages creative thinking and problem solving. In many of our centers we have dress up clothes, food items, play dough, pans, containers, scarves, and more.
Every child benefits from these collections in many ways other than having fun. We know that children who have many opportunities to participate in dramatic play use more sophisticated language and become better readers and writers. Their imaginations go wild and there is no limitation!
