February 2012
February is such an exciting month! We had our first full week back from vacation and the yeladim were so excited to share what they did over their break.
We quickly jumped into learning about the trees in honor or Tu B’Shvat. We learned the parts of the trees in English and Hebrew! We compared our bodies to parts of the tree.
Our legs were the roots, our stomach was the trunk, our arms were the branches, and our fingers were the leaves. We talked about all the different fruits that grow on trees.
In correlation with learning about the trees we had a unit on Brachot. We reviewed all the different Brachot and what Brachot we make on each food. We tasted a different food from each Brachot on the day we discussed the Bracha. We created samples of food that we will save and put into our end of the year Sidor.
With Tu B’Shvat finished we moved into learning about Presidents. We learned that there have been 42 Presidents. The first was George Washington and is often called the “Father of our Country.” We know that the current President is Barak Obama. He lives in the White House, where all presidents live while they are the president. We also read books about Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin.
We made our very own wallets and money. We learned that on all money you can see a different picture of a past president.
Penny- Abraham Lincoln
Nickel- Thomas Jefferson
Dime- Franklin D. Roosevelt
Quarter-George Washington
Dollar Bill-George Washington
5 Dollar Bill-Abraham Lincoln
Once we finish up learning about the Presidents we will begin learning about Purim! We are so excited to learn the story of Purim and to transform our class into Shushan! We know that March will be another exciting month!
