                                           "The Seder For Dummies"

A picture guide of the Seder.
Rules: Each student will be assigned a part of the Seder to demonstrate. Each student will:
1) Take pictures of themselves doing the different steps needed.
2) Type up short descriptions of each step.
3) The pictures should be arranged in a decorative way on a regular size (8.5 x 11) piece of construction paper with the descriptions pasted near them.
Extra Credit: Find out (by asking your parents or a Rabbi) about any different customs that are done (in some communities) by your step in the Seder and include in your guide.

Due date: Friday March 23rd


                   39 Melachot of Shabbat Expo

Each student in the 4th Grade (exactly 39 Students!) will be assigned one of the 39 Melachot (forbidden categories or work) of Shabbat. Each student should produce the following:

 

1)                 A 3-d model of the Melacha as it was done in ancient times.

                             (Extra Credit will be given for the following:

a)                  Showing how the same job is done today in modern times as well.

b)                  When you make the model of ancient work you can use an example of how the American Indians performed this task under the Mission/Rancho system (see Mrs. Sokol for advice).

 

2)                  A 3-d Model OR a poster board showing at least 2 things we may not do on Shabbat (these days) because they are toledot (similar to) of the category of Melacha.

 

Teachers will provide a resource sheet with a brief description of each work as well     as some modern examples. Students can do research on their own for pictures and other modern applications of the melacha.

 

Due: Wednesday Febuary 22nd.

Navi Review Clubs

 

Students will choose a review club of their choice (1-4 people max to a group) and be tasked with providing a class review of פרק ו-ז of Sefer Yehoshua, using the talent of the club.
Club choices are:
(If you want to do something else let me know):

a)      Art - produce comic strip/poster form of the story.

b)      Music - compose and perform a song summarizing the story.

c)       Computer - produce a power point, or other media show.

d)      Drama-Produce a live or recorded skit.

e)      Writing-Produce a newspaper with news stories advertisements, editorials etc… alternatively any form of written expression (e.g. riddles, poems, crossword puzzles, interviews, questions with answers, diaries).

f)       Modeling - produce a diorama/display sequencing the story with subtitles.

Jewish Name Project
 

To stress the importance of our Jewish names (as we are learning פרשת שמות), we will be doing a project on our Jewish name.

 

Instructions:

·        Use a 8.5x11 (or similar size) piece of colored paper or cardstock.

·        Write you Jewish name in Hebrew in large letters (feel free to decorate them as you like).

·        Write a short description of what your name means and, why your parents chose that name for you.

·        Write how you try to live up to your Jewish name.
