You are continuing to work diligently completing the scenes for the Ki Tisa plays. It is wonderful to see your enthusiasm, creativity, and prop-making abilities. Most importantly, I am thrilled to see how wonderfully you are working together in your groups. The collaborative efforts are creating excellent scripts.
I am looking forward to seeing you when I return from the 7th grade trip.

In the spirit of both Parshat Kedoshim and the school-wide Community Building program, the 5th grade girls made fantastic booklets about friendship. They addressed questions about the nature ot true friendship and how to manage disagreements. It was so nice to see them put their heart and soul into the program.
Learning the narrative of the Chet Haegel in Parshat Ki Tisa has been very exciting! Many good questions and answers are coming up and the room is alive with energetic discussion. We are using individual copies of the text to mark stop signs and translate key words and shorashim. We summarize each section of pesukim together and then work in groups to bring the scene to life in a play.
Mishkan Books are due Monday and our vocabulary quiz is Tuesday.

I am very impressed with how the 5th grade girls quickly learned the different bigdei cehuna, the clothing of the cohanim. I was equally impressed with the ideas discussed in workgroups about the meaning of clothing and uniforms.
In Navi, fantastic plays were produced about the story of Gidon. Three perakim in full-length dramas, rich in detail and humor, too!
Yasher Koach, you should go from strength to strength.

The 5th grade girls have continued learning Sefer Shemot with Parshat Terumah. First we learned about the different materials that were brought, and have now learned about the Aron, Shulchan, Menorah, Yeriot (covers), Kerashim (beams), and the Parochet (Diving Curtain). The girls will now begin to work on a book hilighting these different parts of the Mishkan.
We had a special treat this past week when grandparents and special visitors came to our classroom! The grandparents were welcomed by the students and worked together on projects related to theme of Shabbat L'Dor v'Dor, Shabbat from Generation to Generation. Together they worked on an art project and students were able to interview their guests about their experiences with Shabbat growing up.

Great Week in 5th Grade We are finishing Parshat Mishpatim with enthusiasm. We explored different themes in the perakim through Chalk Talk, an activity where we silently wrote answers to questions posted around the room. We responded to one another's comments or asked probing questions, too. Yasher koach for participating so nicely and with excitment. There was also great work on our Navi yearbooks. We had a fun time learning the perek about a female shofet and another gemale star! I am so excited to learn the next perek and Parshat Terumah with you!

Upcoming Quiz
Great work in your chevrusas today! You helped each other out and worked together to complete the review. Our Arba Shomrim quiz will be this Wednesday, January 11. We have reviewed the four types of guards, the differences between them, and when each is obligated in cases of negligence, theft, or an accident. I am looking forward to seeing quizzes as successful as the chevrusas and review were today!
This Week
The 5th grade girls this week have completed their Mishpatim Town project and we began learning about the Arba Shomrim, the four types of watchmen discussed in the Torah - the paid watchman, the unpaid watchman, the renter, and the borrower. We discussed the different levels of responsibility each carries in different cases of accidents, theft, or carelessness.
The girls did beautiful work in their Navi Yearbooks this week and put together very entertaining plays to bring the perek to life! They worked with enthusiasm and good cooperative spirit during the plays.
The girls are coming home today with a parsha sheet from class as well as the school parsha sheet - both are rich with wonderful Torah discussion for your Shabbat tables.
Wishing you and your families a relaxing Shabbat!
Mishpatim Town
Great work, 5th grade girls! You have been working nicely in your chevrusas to showcase the different cases we have learned about in Parshat Mishpatim. Here are some of the questions about personal responsibility and civil law that you came up with and answered: "What is the difference in your ability to defend yourself when a robber comes during the day or night?", "Why do we pay back a different amount of sheep than oxen for having stolen one of each?!", "Does it matter if someone dug a pit in a public space, or just opened one up?", "After how many attacks will your ox be put to death?", "Are you responsible if you drop a match and it spreads to your neighbors house?", "Who in our history had a disagreement about the case of the munching cows?". If you see any of these 5th grade Chumash experts around, please ask them the answers to these questions!
Good Shabbos!
